Beyond Conflict condemns the IDF missile attack on a humanitarian convoy in Gaza
Beyond Conflict condemns the IDF missile attack on a humanitarian convoy in Gaza in recent days which killed seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers.
We offer our condolences to the families of those who died in the attack. We as a charity support the mental health of victims of war and the courageous frontline workers who serve them. Frontline workers put themselves in the firing line every day to serve the world’s most vulnerable communities. Guaranteeing their safety remains an unshakeable principle in any war. Around 200 aid workers have been killed in Gaza since last October. According to the Aid Worker Security Database (Time magazine), this figure is higher than the total number of aid worker deaths that routinely take place worldwide, on an annual basis. The WCK deaths are not a one off. We at Beyond Conflict urge all governments to demand the safety of aid workers in every conflict-zone. The safe passage of humanitarian relief for civilians is enshrined in the fourth Geneva convention. Violation of this principle puts the lives and mental health of all frontline workers at risk; it puts the humanitarian relief effort at risk.
Beyond Conflict supports the global call for a ceasefire and for food and aid supplies to be allowed to reach the Gaza civilian population. We condemn and deplore civilian deaths on both sides of this conflict.
