Fundraising Heroes: Welsh 3000s Peaks Climber Toby Davies and Oxford Muslim leaders

Beyond Conflict is lucky to have a diverse and energetic group of supporters and fundraisers as part of our family. This month our Gaza project got support from across the country.

Toby Davies, a retired police chief in Devon, has just completed the Welsh 3000s  Challenge, climbing the perilous peaks of Snowdonia in a heatwave with a group of fantastic people who all raised money for  charity. Toby chose Beyond Conflict and has raised £1125 and counting.

“I supported #BeyondConflict. I researched and found your charity….it aligned with my values. I feel incredibly fortunate to live in a country where war isn’t part of our everyday lives. The news provides depressing news each and every day on horrific conflicts across our globe. It’s easy to take that sense of safety here for granted, especially when so many people don’t have that luxury. Seeing families being forced from their homes, people living through unimaginable trauma, and the lifetime effects that can have on people, is unbearable to watch. I know I can’t change that on my own, but if taking on a challenge like the Welsh 2000s can raise some money and awareness for those affected, then it feels like a worthwhile thing to do. It’s only a small contribution, but it’s one I’m proud to make.”

Describing the climb as “brilliant and nightmarish,” he finished in 23 hours and 20 minutes. https://www.justgiving.com/page/toby-davies-2

Beyond Conflict Co-Founder and Director Edna Fernandes said:

I’ve been in touch with Toby over the last couple of months as he has trained for this charity challenge. It is a remarkable feat and we are honoured that he has chosen our charity to be the beneficiary. This money will go towards the project we support at Gaza Community Mental Health Programme. Last year,  GCMHP helped almost 4,000 kids in Gaza with BC money. This year we hope to match it. Thank you Toby for making it possible. What a hero!”

Also, thank you to Oxford’s Muslim community

Our esteemed Ambassador Sheikh Ramzy sent £500 via cheque for our Gaza appeal, with the monies coming on behalf of Oxford Dawah Centre and Oxford Muslim Women’s Association. This is incredibly generous and we are thankful to have the support of both organisations.  This money is for the Just Giving BC fundraiser for Gaza, which has already raised an amazing £5,180. https://www.justgiving.com/page/qusai-gcmhp-2

“Thank you Sheikh for this incredibly generous donation from the Oxford Muslim community,” said Edna.  “At a time when the news spotlight has moved elsewhere in the world, the suffering of Gaza’s women and children remains as critical as ever. It is heartening to see people from all walks of life are committed to supporting Gaza’s civilians. This donation will help ease their lives with vital mental health support, delivered by our award winning partner GCMHP.”
