Beyond Conflict Board: Message on Iraq

Beyond Conflict and its partners are reviewing the timetable for a planned joint project in Iraq following the US assassination of Iranian General Qassem Suleimani in Baghdad on 3 January 2020.

We had hoped to begin our first project in Najaf in Iraq in the coming months. But in recent days we have seen a rapid deterioration in the security situation in the country and wider region, as the prospect of a confrontation between the US and Iran rises. The UK and US governments have advised against travel to Iraq.

Beyond Conflict has no volunteers or staff in Iraq at present and the safety of our volunteers remains paramount in deciding our next steps. BC will issue a more detailed statement on our plans in the coming days in light of current events. Our prayers are with the people in the region at this time.
