Why is there urgent need for training therapists?
There is a massive need for mental health and psycho-social services (WHO Survey, 2005). Beyond Conflict believes there can be no lasting peace, economic rehabilitation and defeat of this ideology without addressing the psychological fallout of ISIS. At present, there is no organisation on the ground to address the acute trauma of these people. We intend to address this need, starting with Iraq.
Since 2003 most of the focus of the humanitarian organisations has been on levels one and two, few on level three and none on level four.
